Why Live in Washington DC? Lots of Reasons.

When first thinking about the District of Columbia (DC), most people think of the White House, Capitol Hill, or the famous Mall’s many museums and monuments. It's true that all of those things are fun, educational, and important for tourists of all ages to visit. However, Washington DC is also a wonderful place to call home. It boasts plenty of city culture, with theater, conventions, events, and top-rated restaurants. It possesses a public transportation system which has earned national accolades and certainly has more than its share of politics. DC is home to the world’s embassies, which brings a real international feel to the city’s population, as does the steady flow of tourism. The Northeast Corridor District allows easy travel to cities such as New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, in addition to the shores along the Atlantic Ocean. Weather is hot in the summer, not particularly cold in the winter, mild in the fall, and simply beautiful in the spring. Many people make a spring trip to DC just to visit the blooming cherry blossoms. The biggest employer in the area is the federal government but there is also a strong, growing private sector and many professional associations make DC their corporate base. Unemployment rate in DC is consistently below the national average.

Residents enjoy access to Georgetown University, in the historic Northwest quadrant. This area has quaint cobblestone streets and is known for the colonial-style architecture of its buildings. There are frequently free cultural events at the Kennedy Center, such as live jazz and blues, and the younger crowd finds plenty of clubs downtown. The city's sports enthusiasts watch the Redskins, Wizards, and Capitols play and cheer for DC United. Baseball fans take a quick road-trip to see the Baltimore Orioles and enjoy a major league game. Many residents say Washington DC has a manageable feel but with all the benefits of a big urban city. There are several housing options in DC. People can rent condominiums, reside in townhouses, or purchase traditional homes. Oftentimes people choose to rent apartments in Northeast and Northwest areas of DC because there are such a selection of premier buildings and fine apartment homes available and the city is conducive to apartment dwelling. People who have relocated to the area overwhelmingly agree - Washington DC is a great place to visit but an even better place to live.
