Amos Tamam is a true success story. While there have been other people who came to the United States and achieved great things for themselves, Amos Tamam went even further and pioneered changes to improve the country. His knowledge, determination, drive, and innovative spirit have wrought huge improvements to the public taxi transportation system and made the lives of taxi passengers easier.
When he came to America in the early 1980’s, Amos Tamam brought with him his knowledge of electrical engineering, which he studied in Tel Aviv University in Israel. However, when he arrived he needed to start new and began servicing taxi cabs in New York City. That proved to be the beginning of a long career which has spanned thirty years and took him from working in taxi fleet garages to being the CEO of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc. His ideas have revolutionized the ways passengers can pay for their rides, allowing them to use credit cards by employing wireless technology. This allows people to carry less cash, which reduced the amount of crime against taxi drivers and passengers within the cities of New York City and Philadelphia. Paying by credit card also provides clear receipts for business travelers who later need to account for their expenses. Through Verifone Transportation Systems, Amos Tamam continues to develop new ways to improve taxi transportation and is working to expand his automated payment processes to other American cities. His efforts have advanced the use of technology, brought down crime, and made the lives of all citizens who use public taxi transportation better.
